Construction is nearing the end for M&T Bank Center, the Capital Region’s newest sports and entertainment destination. Located along the waterfront at Mohawk Harbor in Schenectady, this state-of-the-art, $50 million multi-purpose arena is the latest milestone in the area’s exciting revitalization.
Set to open in time for the 2025–26 Union College hockey season, M&T Bank Center will serve as the new home for Union’s Division I men’s and women’s hockey programs. Beyond hockey, the venue is designed to accommodate concerts, sporting events, trade shows, and conventions—with seating for 2,200 at hockey games and an expandable capacity for over 3,425 guests for concerts and shows.

A Transformative Project for Schenectady
M&T Bank Center represents a strong public-private partnership and a long-term investment in the future of Schenectady. Union College has signed a 25-year lease and will contribute $20 million toward the arena, while significant funding has also come from New York State, Schenectady County, the City of Schenectady, and local private donors.
The project is being led by West Yard Properties, LLC, a member of the Galesi Group, and is part of a broader redevelopment vision that has already brought new housing, hotels, restaurants, and retail to Mohawk Harbor.
With over 97,000 square feet of space and a location just steps from Union’s campus and local amenities, M&T Bank Center is poised to become a hub of year-round activity in the Capital Region.
